The Perfect Makeup Starter Kit for Beginners

I've had a recent influx of people reaching out on Instagram asking about quality makeup for when you're just getting started - and I am HERE for it, people!

I'll admit, when it comes to makeup, I stick to my favorites (who doesn't???) because it's SO daunting (and expensive) to change them up. So I can't even imagine how overwhelming it is to walk into a store and try to pick something for the very first time.

I mean, have you seen how many foundations are out there?

I brought in Madison (my brand manager) and we put our heads together to come up with the best recommendations for the perfect starter kit of quality, inexpensive, easy to use makeup! Whether you're shopping for yourself, or someone else, these products will be your go to. Take this list, head to your nearest beauty store or drugstore, and have some fun shopping!

Foundation

Foundation can be tricky, especially when you're first starting out. It can feel uncomfortable if you're not used to wearing something on your skin, and can also feel cakey if you're applying it heavy handed. Here's our top picks for the perfect starter foundation:

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation

Why we love it: it's super buildable, so you can easily learn how much to use when applying. And it's very difficult to put TOO much on! Buy it here

Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation

Why we love it: this powder option is great for people who are nervous about creams. It's also super buildable, provides great coverage, and lasts for hours without fading or looking cakey. Buy it here

Winky Lux White Tea Tinted Veil Moisturizer

Why we love it: this LOOKS like a foundation, adds some color to your skin, but is very lightweight, so a great option for beginners who don't want to add too much to their face. Buy it here

Powder

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder

Why we love it: this is mineral-based and very lightweight. It's great to apply over foundation to prevent any shiny or oily spots. Buy it here

Covergirl Professional Loose Powder

Why we love it: this has a really silky and beautiful finish that prevents the shine! Buy it here

Bronzer

Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer

Why we love it: this has a little bit more of a creamy texture, but that's what makes it super blendable, allowing for a lovely natural finish. Plus, it smells DELISH. Buy it here

Rimmel Natural Bronzer

Why we love it: This is a nice, gentle, warm-toned bronzer is a drugstore staple, full stop. Wear semi-sheer for everyday use or layer it on for a deeply bronzed effect. Buy it here

Blush & Highlight Duos

Note: we recommended blush and highlight duos since both can be very overwhelming separately, but combined together, they're the perfect pair to learn with!

elf Baked Highlighter & Blush Duo

Why we love it: this is an absolute favorite (Madison actually just bought it for herself). It provides a beautiful golden glow, it is super easy to use and subtle in a natural way. Great for just starting your makeup journey! Buy it here

Milani Baked Blush

Why we love it: while this is labeled a blush, it has a beautiful shimmer to it that brings a glow to your cheeks! Buy it here
